If you’ve ever felt like you’re “performing” your life instead of living it—this episode is for you.
In my conversation with Jason Catron (internationally recognized vocal coach, performer, and now a confidence + communication coach), we talk about what it actually means to find your authentic voice—not just as a singer, but as a human being trying to be seen, heard, and understood.
This episode is equal parts life story + practical wisdom. Jason shares the pivotal moments that shaped his path (including a wild college turning point that forced him to choose between the “safe” route and the one that was true), and we dig into how fear, insecurity, identity, and people-pleasing show up in the voice—every single day.
Jason has been in music and performance since childhood—so early that he jokes about how young he was when he first got paid to sing. He’s lived the reality of chasing a creative calling, being misunderstood early in his career, and having to constantly ask: “Who am I really—and what am I here to say?” He also shares a powerful reminder that the creative life is not always the most comfortable life—but it can be the most meaningful.
Jason and I walk through the “fork in the road” moments that shaped his identity—and what those moments teach all of us about purpose:
But my favorite part of this episode is when we get into the deeper work: confidence, communication, identity, and the invisible stuff that lives underneath the voice. Jason explains that there’s a big difference between “helping someone sing” and helping them find their true authentic voice—and that deeper work is what he’s building his next chapter around.
Ultimately, this episode is really about self-expression. Jason breaks down how your voice is tied to your inner world—your confidence, your nervous system, your identity, your fear of judgment—and how learning to use your voice can help you:
At one point, we talk about how freeing it is to realize: nobody is thinking about you as much as you think they are—and how that awareness helps you relax into who you actually are.
