If you’re in a season where your life doesn’t look how you thought it would… this episode is your permission slip to finally do something about it.
In this episode of The Lost & Found Podcast, I talk about the millennial career crisis, the fear of being seen as a failure, and how using your autonomy—your power to choose the next step—is how you get unstuck.
There’s a specific kind of panic that hits when you realize the life you worked for doesn’t fit anymore.
Not because you’re lazy.
Not because you’re “ungrateful.”
Not because you did anything wrong.
Sometimes it’s just this: the dream you’re chasing so fiercely starts to feel like a cage. And if you’re living inside that realization right now—if you’re stuck in the weird in-between where everything looks fine on paper but your nervous system is screaming—this episode is for you.
And the message I want to give you is simple:
You are always allowed to change your mind about what you want, about who you are, and about what you thought would make you happy.
I recorded this episode in the middle of a real-life, chaotic season—work stress, messy momentum, difficult family dynamics, technical issues, and still showing up anyway. And honestly? That’s part of why it matters.
Because a major life transformation or pivot rarely happens when everything is neat and aesthetic and perfectly planned. It happens when something in you finally admits:
“This isn’t working.”
In Episode 117, I talk about being a “casualty” of the great millennial career crisis—how so many of us are dealing with economic pressure, identity pressure, and the emotional whiplash of realizing the path we were sold isn’t delivering what it promised.
And if you’re trying to carry that walk that path alone, it can feel like you’re going crazy. I promise… you’re not.
You can want something “more than anything”… and still outgrow it.
I never imagined my dream of working for the FBI would eventually become more like a cage than a calling. If you’ve ever met me, you would know I deeply resonated with the original values of “Fidelity”, “Bravery”, and “Integrity.” I spent most of my life growing up and watching other men and women sacrifice so much for their country because they believed it was their purpose. And if I didn’t join the military, I figured the next best option for me would be to join the FBI and uphold the U.S. Constitution and protect the American people.
But nothing lasts forever, especially when your so-called life’s purpose turns out to be an unexpected detour. That’s what happens when your life stops being aligned with who you are—and starts requiring you to shape-shift just to survive.
If that line hits you in the chest, I want you to hear this next part too:
Outgrowing something isn’t failure. It’s sign that you have a bigger calling. And you need to listen.
Let’s be honest about what keeps people stuck. It’s not always a lack of options. Nor is it always a lack of talent.
Sometimes it’s a deeply rooted fear: “If I leave this… I’ll look like a failure.”
In Episode 117, I talk about how pride, sunk costs, degrees, and expectations kept me in a misaligned life longer than I should have stayed—because I was terrified of being a disappointment to people I cared about.
And because of that shame and fear… I didn’t believe I was allowed to change my mind.
If you’ve ever felt that—this episode will feel like somebody turning on the lights.
Your greatest strength when you feel trapped is your autonomy—your ability to choose what happens next.
Even when all the choices feel terrible.
Even when it feels like you don’t have any options.
Even when both paths lead to pain.
This is what I mean by “pivoting like a pro,” not a dramatic burn-it-all-down moment. More like a series of decisions that say: “Okay. This didn’t work. I’m going to try this instead.”
And yes—sometimes it’s messy for a while. Sometimes it’s painful for a while. But it’s not forever.
Remember, the longer you stay on the wrong train, the longer it takes to get back home.
So if you know you’re on the wrong train… Get off at the next stop.
You can change your mind.
You can start walking back toward yourself.
You’re not quitting from lack of wanting to try.
You’re stopping yourself from turning into someone you don’t recognize.
And that my friend, takes courage.
